The work
From wall mirrors and bar tops to coffee tables and bookshelves, live-edge wood is a flexible, fickle and stunning resource to work with.
The typically high cost of live-edge furniture can make it inaccessible for many people, but the JS Wildwood shop is about passionate ownership, not profit margins. We’re eager to work with any client to collaboratively design a custom fixture or statement piece to complement their home.
Many of the materials used in the Wildwood shop are “rescues”—reclaimed, salvaged, or deemed otherwise unusable for some reason or another. With creativity, patience, and some vibrant pours of epoxy, these stunning slabs and stumps are given another shot at life—and crafted to last.
We have experience with dozens of soft and hardwood tree species from across the country, particularly those in western and southern regions. Power tool use is kept to a minimum, meaning that each project is perfectly imperfect—shaped, smoothed, stained and sealed by a careful hand.
A piece from JS Wildwood is an original, functional and personal work of art that elevates any space.
John
John has been a writer, editor and photographer for over a decade, but telling stories with wood is a relatively newfound passion. He built his first bookshelf from salvaged river wood in 2019, then a plant palace, and then a mobile bookstore, and well… he was hooked.
6 years later, he creates one-of-a-kind live-edge art, furniture and fixtures from his backyard woodshop in the St. Claude neighborhood of New Orleans, helping to make old things new again in a city where art is always queen.
